What the assessment covers
Six everyday areas that matter most when usual services are interrupted.

Water
Drinking and washing water if supply is interrupted.
Food and cooking
Food you can store and prepare without usual services.
Power and lighting
Light, warmth and charging during a power cut.
Communications
Staying informed and in touch when networks are disrupted.
First aid and hygiene
Basic first aid, medicines and keeping clean.
Household needs and pets
The particular needs of the people and animals you live with.
You can start small.
Preparation doesn't need to be expensive or take over your home. A few bottles of water, a working torch or a written list of phone numbers can make a real difference to how a disruption feels.
The assessment respects renters, limited budgets, small homes and different household needs. It currently summarises your answers without suggesting personalised next steps.

Helping build a picture of UK readiness
In future, you may be able to choose to contribute answers to help understand household readiness across the UK. Contributing would always be a separate, explicit choice, never preselected and never required to see your results. You can complete the assessment without contributing to research.
About the UK Readiness IndexQuestions
Is it free?
Yes. The assessment is free to use and you don't need an account.
What happens to my answers?
Household answers are held only in this tab's browser memory and are not submitted for research. Moving between pages within the site keeps your answers. Refreshing, closing the tab or resetting clears them.
Will I get a score?
Not yet. The calculation methodology is still being developed, so results show a clear 'methodology pending' state. You can view a separate, clearly labelled example result.
Do I need to buy anything?
No. Many useful steps cost little or nothing, and you can start small with what you already have.
Is this a government service?
No. How Ready? UK is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by government.
